Call for Abstracts

Parma University invites the submission of abstracts and papers for the 23rd Global Conference on Environmental Taxation (GCET23), to be held virtually and in-person in Parma, Italy, on the 21st through the 23rd of September 2022. The theme of the conference is “The Green Growth Challenge."

Over the past 22 years, the GCET conferences have grown as an important meeting place for experts and scholars from all parts of the world taking an interest in experiences and insights relating to environmental taxation in a wide sense. The devastating effects of climate change are obvious to everybody. In this complex scenario, there is no doubt that environmental taxation will be a formidable tool, to be used selectively to address climate change and to encourage sustainable green growth.

According to the tradition of GCET conferences, contributions by academic scholars are encouraged as well as contributions from experts from international bodies, governmental agencies, NGOs and the private sector.

Abstracts for GCET23 may be submitted addressing topics on how and why environmental taxation can be considered a key instrument for strengthening sustainable economic growth and facing the risk of an energy shock.

The broad range of topics includes:

  • Risk of an energy shock and environmental taxation
  • Environmental taxation in view of reducing energy dependence
  • Circular economy
  • Constitutional provisions, green economy and sustainability
  • Carbon taxation
  • Energy taxation
  • Carbon border adjustment mechanism
  • Emission trading scheme
  • Green taxes in the context of broader tax reform

The abstract submission deadline is the 15th of May, 2022. Abstracts will be accepted on a rolling basis, so that early notifications might be made, allowing participants to register early for the conference.

In case of queries, please contact Alberto Comelli at alberto.comelli@unipr.it. The GCET23 website will be operational soon.
