On March 20, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. in Aula Filosofi at the University’s main campus, the conference Private Food Law: Subjects, Contracts, and Liability will take place, coordinated by Prof. Tommaso Bonamini.

This conference aims to encourage reflection on the impact that food law has had on general private law by examining its most significant implications, organized according to the traditional macro-areas of civil law—namely: subjects, contracts, and liability. By involving recognized experts in Food Law Regulation together with scholars in private law, the conference seeks to outline the essential features of private food law as an autonomous field of study, where the regulatory perspective meets private autonomy.

The event will be introduced by welcome remarks from Prof. Lucia Scaffardi, scientific coordinator of the Food for Future project, and Prof. Giovanni Francesco Basini, Director of the Department of Law, Political and International Studies.

Guest speakers include:
Prof. Bernhard Martijn Juliaan Van der Meulen, Professor of EU Food Law at the University of Copenhagen and former visiting professor in the Master’s Degree in Global Food Law: Sustainability Challenges and Innovation;
Prof. Malo Depincé, Director of the Master’s Degree in Food Law and Agroecology at the University of Montpellier;
Prof. Paolo Borghi, Professor of Food Law at the University of Ferrara.

Attached is the full program of the conference, which is part of the research project Private Food Law. A new perspective on contracts and civil liability in food law regulation, funded by the University of Parma, Action B – 2025 University Call.

The conference has been accredited by the Bar Association of Parma with the allocation of 5 training credits. Accreditation is currently in progress with the National Council of Notaries. Accreditation is also underway for special training activities under the table of Article 16, paragraph 1, letter P, of the Continuing Professional Education Regulation for chartered accountants and accounting experts.

At the end of the study day, a printed certificate of participation will be issued, which may be submitted to one’s professional association for credit recognition.
