Indicative parameters.
Formal guidelines and criteria for the composition of the thesis:
- The thesis must be printed double‑sided (“front/back”).
- Pages must be formatted with a minimum of 22 lines and at least 60 characters per line.
- Font size should be 11 pt for the main text and 9 pt for footnotes.
- The thesis must begin with a table of contents, listing chapters and paragraphs.
- The bibliography, arranged in alphabetical order by author, must be placed at the end of the document.
- Bibliographic citations, references to works already cited, and abbreviations must conform—unless otherwise instructed by the Supervisor—to those used in:
V. Napolitano, Dizionario Bibliografico delle Riviste giuridiche italiane, Giuffrè, Milano.
For any aspect not specified in this list, follow the guidelines provided by your Supervisor.
Writing the Thesis document
Attached you will find a Word “template” document, already set with the minimum required parameters and including the settings not specified in the preamble (such as the cover page, table of contents, chapter and paragraph titles, and bibliography).
If you choose to use this document, please follow the instructions contained within it.
Styles are essential: without the correct application of styles, the template will not work properly.
Using the template is not mandatory. If the styles are not applied correctly, the template may cause confusion, and therefore its use is discouraged.
In that case, you may copy the same settings contained in the template and apply them to a new Word document.
Logo, Cover Pages, and Printing
In the template attached above, an example of the thesis title page is already provided.
Regarding the logo, please read the instructions below.
UPLOAD OF THE FINAL THESIS DOCUMENT
Starting from March 2020, all graduating students from Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Single‑cycle degree programmes must upload their final thesis/dissertation file within their reserved Esse3 area.
The upload must be completed under: Reserved Area → Graduation/Final Exam → Awarding of the Degree, using the button “Proceed with the thesis completion process.”
The file must be in PDF/A format and must not exceed 21 MB in size.
Failure to upload the thesis will result in exclusion from the graduation session.
Within the procedure, you are also required to upload, as an attachment, the receipt confirming completion of the AlmaLaurea questionnaire.
It is also possible to upload any additional documents required by your specific degree programme (e.g., form for diploma mailing address).
N.B. For further information, online graduation sessions, and detailed guidelines, please refer to ⇒ Graduation Application.
One printed copy will be delivered to the Supervisor, and the other will remain with the student.
New Logo and Reorganization of Departments
As of January 1, 2017, the University of Parma has adopted a new logo and a new coordinated visual identity.
Students at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Specialization, PhD, Master programmes) must include the University of Parma logo on the cover and on the title page of their thesis, without needing to request any authorization.
The logo can be downloaded from the student’s reserved area (Esse3), accessible with authentication credentials within the procedure “GRADUATION/FINAL EXAM – Awarding of the Degree.”
N.B.: It is recommended to save the logo, as it will no longer be visible once the graduation application is closed.
The new Regulation on the use of the University of Parma logo is available at:
http://www.unipr.it/node/416
The requirement to use the new logo has been in force since January 1, 2017, taking into account the technical time needed to prepare the thesis and therefore the actual ability to reproduce the new logo.
Students who have not yet printed their thesis are also requested to indicate, on both the cover and the title page, their Degree Programme and their Department, following the updated names introduced after the reorganization of Departments effective from January 1, 2017.
The updated list is available at:
